Charting the Course of Dental in 2024

On March 20, Fluent hosted our latest INSIGHTS from Fluent webinar, in partnership with the Dental Trade Alliance, discussing the state of the dental market and what the future holds. Here’s a summary of the topics discussed and how you can access these insights for yourself.

From patient age distribution to gains in multi-location affiliated group practices, 2023 was a transformative year for dentistry. While the future remains in flux, Fluent’s data and trusted dental domain expertise offers our partners a glimpse of what we can expect for the market in 2024 and beyond.

Mapping current dental market realities and future trends

Our recent webinar, "Charting the Course of Dental in 2024," hosted Fluent’s Chief Analytics Officer, Tim Downey, dove deep into the data that’s shaping the current and future state of the oral healthcare industry. During the webinar Fluent offered up insights on:

• A return to “normal.” The data revealed that 2023 represented the most “normal” post-COVID year, regarding levels of growth and seasonality.


• The effects of Medicare Advantage patients. The size and influence of the Medicare Advantage patient population (age 65+) continues to steadily grow year-over-year, with this population accounting for most, if not all, of the growth in some treatment categories.


• The state of DSOs/larger affiliated groups. These groups continue their slow but steady gains of patient share, with data indicating what future trends might look like.

A sample from the webinar: the over-65 Medicare Advantage treated patients population is outpacing growth in the overall population.

The webinar discussed how economic and political events could shape dental in 2024 as well as shared some trends about “Super GPs” (general dentists who expand their work into areas traditionally serviced by specialists) and how they are diversifying their offerings.
